Best of the Web Directory (BOTW) Free Advertising

Posted on October 11, 2007 by Tim Schroeder

Best of the Web is offering free Premium Sponsorships for 60 days. When you sign up for a premium sponsorship you will be able to feature your website or blog at the top of a relevant category and alongside BOTW search results.

So this got me thinking, How about a new small Best of The Web Advertising Case Study!

As you know I’ve done a few advertising Case Studies here on eMonetized in the past and shared those results. I thought a Best of the Web advertising case study could be interesting and what I really like about this case study is that it’s going to be FREE!

At the end of the 60 day free Best of the Web Premium sponsorship I’ll share my traffic numbers and IF it will be worth continuing. One cool thing about this sponsorship link is that it’s NOT a redirect. This means you get the traffic AND a high quality direct link. Of course I’m just placing the ad for traffic. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Some of the specific categories I really wanted had already been taken such as:

But believe me when I say that there are still hundreds of really good available categories to choose from. In the end I ended up placing my free sponsorship ad here:

That category happens to be a PR4 but it was one of the more relevant categories for this blog. If you personally are after higher PageRank pages they are still some really great PR5 pages available.

Note to Google: I’m not placing that text ad for PageRank nor am I purchasing it to manipulate your search engine results. I’m placing an ad on Best of the Web in a relevant category for clickthrough traffic and NO other reason. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (is this what things have come to?) It won’t be long until we have to place ad disclaimers next to our ads!

I’ve always been a firm believer in organic SEO, so I’m riding the same boat. There certainly are new ways to online marketing nowadays but there are free traffic sites really work if you know how to work them.

I do like the idea. But I have never been keen on signing up to something and then with the intention of only getting the service for free, then stopping the service. I always seem to forget to turn it off.
