Finding a good niche can make or break a website. A “Niche” is a narrow segment of a sometimes small but highly profitable market. For example, Internet Marketing is a broad topic. A Niche within “Internet Marketing” would be Search Engine Optimization or Pay-Per-Click Marketing. But we can get even more focused and narrow down those larger niches into smaller ones such as “Search Engine Optimization for Google” or “Marketing Your Website with Google Adsense.”
Just looking around your house might help you find a new profitable niche. For example, I looked around the room and saw an instructions manual for a new “ExerSaucer” my wife recently purchased. We are new parents. An ExerSaucer, a specific product in the baby products market, could be an example of a product niche!
Doing my research I found that this keyword, exersaucer, and related phrases get a fair amount of searches. The product also usually sells for between $39 to $100+ dollars which means higher commissions. An exersaucer reviews website could make for a great niche.
While there may be a bit of competition ranking for that keyword, a lot of those websites are very broad in focus. Over time and because the website will be most relevant to the subject, I would have a good chance of getting some good search engine rankings for that keyword.
There are still many highly profitable specific niches yet to be discovered. Find those and you could find a goldmine. The Google Adwords keyword research tool is a great place to start your research. A couple other alternatives would be Wordtracker (limited free version is here) or Keyword Elite.
On another subject, I’m going to start posting a semi-weekly posts with ideas for specific new profitable niches.
Have a great weekend!

Perhaps the best thing to do is to sell a product within a niche that you are part of and familiar with. When i started my Greek Store, the success of my business was largely due to the fact that I was in involved in Greek life.
I think it’s also important to ensure you have an interest in your chosen niche - this helps keep you motivated and productive (in my experience, at least!).

You are right about niches, it is the best way to go, only that you should be careful to not get a niche that is too narrow and make no traffic out of it.
